Thanks to Ann at Mumsnet HQ I now know that the neon sign in Downing Street says: “More Passion”. It was designed and created by Tracy Emin and gifted to the government art collection after David Cameron asked her to design a piece of art at the request of one David Cameron.
I absolutely love that it says “More Passion” because that’s really what Tuesday night at Downing Street was about: learning about the really incredible work The Railway Children does and finding more passion within ourselves to prevent children becoming homeless.
Emin’s neon signs normally feature heartfelt messages or x-rated slogans, but it would seem she decided to tone this one down.
FYI – The pink neon passion sign is above the door of the Terracotta Room which is often used for hospitality purposes (as it was used for us on Tuesday night). It was put above the door to that specific room because it would be visible to all those who climbed No 10’s main staircase – famous for its adjacent wall of pictures of former prime ministers (and for Hugh Grant dancing down them)
Rooms leading off Hugh Grant’s staircase include the White Room and a study once used by Margaret Thatcher.

my mum has always told me to look up to see the unusual in life like great architecture, gothic gargoyles and weirdly placed neon signs!!
